Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of Baby Name Data. By accessing this site you accept these terms in full; if you do not accept them, please do not use the site. The site is operated by the Baby Name Data Editorial Team and publishes statistics derived from public U.S. Social Security Administration records. The underlying SSA data is a work of the United States federal government and is not subject to copyright; the text, tables' presentation, and design of this site are the site's own and may not be reproduced wholesale without permission, although individual figures may of course be quoted with attribution to the SSA data and a link back to the relevant page here.

Permitted use

You may browse the site, share links to its pages, and quote individual statistics with attribution for personal, educational, journalistic, and other lawful purposes. You may not use automated tools to scrape the site at a rate that burdens it, misrepresent figures from this site as official SSA publications, present estimated or altered figures as if they came from this site, or use the site or its content for any unlawful purpose. The contact form may be used only to send genuine messages to the editorial team; unsolicited marketing through the form is prohibited.

Accuracy and availability

The team works to keep every figure faithful to the source file and verifies headline tables against the SSA's own published tables, but the site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Statistics may contain errors inherited from the source records, and where a figure here differs from the SSA's published table, the SSA's table is authoritative. The site may be changed, reorganised, or taken offline at any time without notice, and page addresses may change as the site develops, in which case reasonable efforts will be made to keep older links working.

Changes to the site and to these terms

The editorial team may add tables, rebuild pages when the SSA releases a new year of data, correct figures, and reorganise sections as the site develops. Such changes do not require notice to individual users, because the site has no registered users to notify. These terms may be revised in the same way, with the revised version posted on this page under a refreshed last-updated stamp. If a revision materially changes what users may do with the site's content, the change will be described in plain language at the top of the revised terms rather than buried in the text. Your continued use of the site after a revision is posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms, and if you do not accept a revision the remedy is to stop using the site.

Liability and governing terms

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and its operators are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on figures published here, from the site being unavailable, or from following a link to an external site, whose content is the responsibility of its own operator. These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's location, and if any provision is held unenforceable the remaining provisions continue in effect. Questions about these terms can be sent through the contact page.

Disclaimer: Baby Name Data publishes statistics drawn from U.S. Social Security Administration baby name records. Figures are counts of Social Security card applications by year of birth and are shown for general information only. Counts below five in any year, sex, or state are not released by the SSA and are not estimated here. Nothing on this page is advice about what to name a child.
