Privacy Policy

Baby Name Data is a statistics website. It has no user accounts, no comments, and no checkout, and it does not ask visitors for personal information anywhere except the contact form. This policy describes what information is collected when you use the site, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using this site you agree to the practices described here. If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new last-updated stamp, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this site and the services it uses collect standard technical information sent by your browser, which can include your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and the pages you view on this site and when. This site uses Google Analytics, measurement ID shown in the page source as a placeholder until deployment, to understand aggregate readership, such as which tables are most used, so the editorial team can improve the site. Analytics data is used in aggregate and is not used by this site to identify individual visitors.

Cookies and advertising

This site may display advertising provided by Google and its partners. Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users of this site based on their visit to this site and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, and may opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting the industry opt-out pages provided by the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative. Cookies may also be set by the analytics service described above. You can control or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings; the site's tables remain readable with cookies disabled.

Contact form

If you send a message through the contact form, the name, email address, and message you provide are transmitted to the editorial team by email so your message can be answered. That information is used only to respond to your enquiry and is not sold, rented, or added to any marketing list. Do not send sensitive personal information through the form.

How long information is kept

Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to answer the enquiry and to maintain a record of any correction made as a result of it, after which they are deleted in the ordinary course of mailbox management. Technical logs created by the hosting and analytics services are retained according to those services' standard retention settings and are reviewed only in aggregate. This site does not build profiles of individual visitors, does not combine information from the contact form with analytics information, and does not sell, rent, or trade any information it receives to any third party for that party's own marketing.

Your choices

Beyond the advertising and cookie choices described above, you may contact the team through the contact page to ask what information, if any, is held in connection with an email address you used to write to the site, and to ask for a contact message you sent to be deleted. Because the site keeps no accounts and no visitor database, most such requests can be answered simply: the only record is the email thread itself. If a privacy law in your jurisdiction gives you additional rights, the team will honour them on request through the same contact page.

Children, links, and contact

This site publishes historical population statistics and is not directed at children under 13. Pages link to the U.S. Social Security Administration and other official sources; those sites have their own privacy policies, which govern once you leave this site. Questions about this policy can be sent through the contact page.

Disclaimer: Baby Name Data publishes statistics drawn from U.S. Social Security Administration baby name records. Figures are counts of Social Security card applications by year of birth and are shown for general information only. Counts below five in any year, sex, or state are not released by the SSA and are not estimated here. Nothing on this page is advice about what to name a child.
